Early Biography:

        Shivraj Ramsharan was an Indian scientist known for his work in the field of crystallography. Shivraj Ramsharan was born on 10 October 1923 in Madras city in India, he was married to Kausalya. Kausalya was the granddaughter of BS Srinivasa Sastri, an Indian politician. He got his early education from Nagpur.

        He obtained B.A.C. Honors degree from Nagpur University in 1943 and M.Sc. in 1945. In 1948, he obtained Associateship in IISc and in 1949, he received the degree of DSC from Nagpur University. He obtained his PhD under CV Raman.

Work: Shivraj Ramsharan

        After completing his doctorate, he worked as a lecturer at the Indian Institute of Science. At that time he developed an interest in X-rays and was instrumental in improving the Materials Science Division at the National Aerospace Laboratories. He has worked as a professor at the Indian Institute of Technology.

        At the beginning of his career, Prof. Ramayash had worked as a Research Assistant in IASC in 1945. Then from 1981 to 1984 he became the director of IICS. Lecturer in IISc from 1949-1953.

        From 1953 to 1962, he was working as an assistant professor. He has been the director during 1981 and 1984. Prof. Ramsharan worked at the Polytechnic Institute in Brooklyn, New York from 1954 to 1955. He was Honorary Distinguished Professor Emeritus at the Research Institute from 1984 to 2003.

Achievements: Shivraj Ramsharan Awards and Honors:

1) Prof. Ramsharan was awarded Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Award in 1966 by the Government of India.
2) In the year 1980, Ramsharan had received a real award  .
3) In 1985, he received the INSA Aryabhata Medal.
4) In 1985, he was honored with the Pagh Bhushan Award by the Government of India.
5) He is a Fellow of the Indian Academy of Sciences in 1955.
6) In 1972, he was elected a Fellow of the Indian National Science Academy.
